week 8, eating day

Have been battling a cold for a week, and feel like I'm drowning. Pretty sure it's a sinus infection at this point, so started taking antibiotics. Eating day is pretty much a non event until we get to dinner. Ordered pizza, and topped it off with cherry pie and ice creme. Feel like my tummy has a huge weight on it. ugh.
I seem to be maintaining my weight. I have been so sick, have not been exercising. Some days I was only able to stay out of bed, so exercising wasn't a possibility. Hoping week 9 will prove to be a better week. Wash your hands lots, folks. It's not worth getting this sick.
Wanted to play with the horses today, but ended up wrestling with the tractor. Ran out of gas, had to tow it with the pu to the propane tank. Had to move 15, 1000 pound round bales, so I was pretty worked. That's exercise, right? I did a lot of walking today. Did spend some time with the equines, but no riding. Our caretaker ended up working my horse on line. I did a little barn cat herding, border collie ball throwing, and wrestled with our two mini donkeys. Wonder what my calorie burn rate was when added up with my resting metabolic rate? Donkey wrestling. I'll have to look it up.
Tomorrow starts week 9, and hope to start it off with a little elliptical action. Will be riding Mr. Gunner tomorrow, and working Eclipse and Hawk on line. I'll let ya know how it all looks around day 2.

week 8, day 1

It's warmed up, considerable so hope to spend a lot more time outside. Also came down with an ugly cold and fever blister. Oh yeah, I'm feeling beautiful.
Equifest was a hoot, and walked on and off, all day. My back was horrific by the time I staggerd out of there, and then had to drive 2 1/2 hours home. Bad headache, neck and sinus, all at the same time. Shoot me now.
Yes, I indulged heavily yesterday, being eating day and all. Turkey wraps, pizza, valentine candy, choc covered strawberry, and a donut. Yep, and I don't feel bad at all. Only gained a pound, so I'm not too worried about it. It helps when you go back to the diet grind and those things are no longer part of your day. This way of eating really is easier with that day at the end of the week waiting for you with all it's possibilities. Sometimes I go nuts, and sometimes it's just nice to know I can.

week 7, day 6

No weight loss today, and not surprised. My running around was in a car, with not a lot of movement on my part. I didn't eat a great deal today, either. Too busy. Tomorrow we are heading for Wichita to check out Equifest. That will require a lot of moving, for a very long time. I think it's good I'm resting up. I'll bring the ibuprophen, and enjoy some very bad for ya horse show food.
We are hitting a little restaurant in town for cinnamon rolls tomorrow for breakfast. Really GOOD coffee and THESE! Can you believe how good they look? They're so FLUFFY!
Ahem, anyway...drinking a glass of red wine, and looking forward to fitting into my jeans tomorrow. Two months ago, putting on my jeans would have been impossible. This whole journey has been totally worth every minute. Just to put on jeans! sigh.

week 7, day 5

Same weight, not real unhappy with my body right now. Ya are where ya are. Have to love yourself, and keep trying to be better, body, mind and spirit. Thinking about doing a colon cleanse. I'm trying to think of a good way to put this, but I can't. My bowels are a mess. I either am not going, or really going. I'm striving for balance, here.
-5 this morning, with a promise of warmer temps tomorrow. Much warmer! Almost 60 by Sunday! This is a temporary respite from winter, but a welcome one. At least we'll get out on the horses and get moving. It's difficult to get out and move when you could die. The elliptical is ok, but boring. Never have been someone that exercises on purpose. I did go to the gym every day before the accident, but I forced myself. I like my exercise to be a part of what I do, like skiing, or horses, or rock climbing. You don't even know you are exercising when you are having fun. You don't know until your body tells you, "if you don't stop soon, I"m gonna quit". That happens a lot in skiing, abruptly. Horses, it's not so bad, but when you quit riding with your body, so does your horse.
I'm still on this diet, much to my own amazement. What is astonishing, I lost my tummy, for the most part. I had surrendered to the fact that I was now that person that had the skinny legs and big tummy. You know, the little old lady body? Doesn't have to be that way. Even if the stuff around your middle is cortasol related, you can still do something about it. It's not hopeless. So, what's more important? Food, or being healthy? Life is all about choice. You are where you are because of the choices you've made. You are accountable for everything in your life. Don't like it? Make a different choice. Very simple, and sometimes the hardest thing you'll ever do. Choose you. Choose to be better, every day. You'll get there. Where else do you have to go?

week 7, day 3

I know this is cheating. I have started eating a small bowl of cereal (ride chex, no sugar) for breakfast. It sits a bit better on my tummy. I'm a lot more inclined to eat within a 1/2 hour of waking, too. This morning, 117!
Yesterday I did very small amounts of time on the elliptical, and spent a long time wrestling with the tractor putting out a round bale for the horses. These bales are 1000 pounds, and I was either in mud or in snow. My tractor doesn't have front wheel assist, which is like two wheel drive. I'm pretty sore this morning. My upper body strength is very poor. Wish I could do a kettle ball. If you can, check out Tim's website. I think a woman lost close to 100 pounds using a kettle ball. She looks fantastic!
I know that eating can be a control issue. If you feel out of control in your life, this may be the one thing you can control. Although it feels good, and powerful, even...Feeling physically powerful feels better. You have to trade one for the other. That's right, change. ugh. It's the hardest thing we do, and yet it can be the most impowering.
People will stick with the same job, spouse, way of eating, way of living, because it's familiar. Thing is, it can be incredibly painful, and we cling to it because it's what we know. Even if it hurts. Badly. Life is about choice. You can choose a different path, and learn a new way of being. A way that feels amazing. It's funny, but even though it feels so good, you'll be tempted to go back to old behavior. It was like that teaching skiing.
I'd work with someone, and they'd finally let go of their fear and give a new bit of info a try. It would totally change their skiing, but they would only be able to maintain it for a turn or two. They'd go right back to their old habits. Then, a turn or two the new way. It took them a while, waaaaay after they'd left the lesson, to embrace this new way of skiing. They began to link more turns, and soon, an entire run. I told them if they got tired, or on a hill that was too steep, they'd go back to their old way of skiing. Don't ski when you are tired, and don't go to a steeper run until you are ready, and hopefully do it in a lesson. Wlith time, the new way became the only way, and skiing got a lot more fun.
Here's the deal. With dieting, it's a whole new way of life, and every day is a new opportunity to get it right. You may only link a turn or two, but keep trying. You need to make this way of eating a habit. Make it more comfortable to eat this way than the old way. Make it your own, so that it's comfortable. This is not a "just until I lose the wieght" kind of life change. This is from now on. You can have your "eating day" and that seems to take away all those ugly cravings all week. You'll find your eatiing day becomes more of a non event, and the way you feel in your new body what you celebrate and look forward to.
I'm not saying this is easy. Easier if you do it with support or a friend. Choose this, and keep chosing this way of living. Choose to be healthy. Choose yourself over food. Choose, and quit blaming the world for where you are. Maybe a bad childhood, or abusive spouse, or child birth or whatever got you this way. But YOU are the one chosing to stay here. Quit blaning and claim your power. You are more powerful than you can imagine.

P.S.

I just tried on my wedding dress. The one I couldn't zip up, not even close? It zips, and I can breath. Wow.

week 7, day 2

Spent a little time on the elliptical yesterday. It squeaks, so it's pretty annoying. I can only handle it for about a minute, and have to get off. Not because of the squeaking, because of the burning of my legs and my back. I really need a treadmill. It isn't so hard on my back. I lost a ton of weight, walking about 2 miles a day. This was pre back injury. I lived in the Sierra's so all the walking was either up hill or down hill. The hardest part was convincing everyone in town that I didn't need a ride somewhere. Small town, I knew everyone, and everyone would stop and ask if I was ok. "Yes, I'm exercising." "Really? Seriously?" I have the perfect walking situation now. I live in the country with miles of dirt roads to explore. Unfortuately my back will go out at any given time, and that could leave me with a 1/4 mile of walking still to do to get home. No one stops to offer you a ride because traffic is non existant.
Not able to ride my horses because the footing is sheet ice. Feb tends to bring snow, ice, and ugly cold. We all are, horses, dogs, cats, and mini donks, hunkering down and praying for spring. One more month to go. March will be better. Not warm, but better. I'll hop on the elliptical and spend as much time as I can. If I don't, I think I'm stuck at this weight.
My daughter has a kettle ball. I hear that THAT is the miracle ball to lose weight and gain muscle mass by. Can't do that but she is, and she looks great. Being 22 helps a lot.
Yesterday I discovered that black bean refries are much better than regular. Seems I'm eating the same thing all the time, so eating is not the event it was. I eat to live, not live to eat. Last night I gave a moments thought to saying, "screw it" and eating pizza. 7 weeks investment was enough motivation to not blow this. Yes, even after 7 weeks, the old habits come screaming to the surface. I have to figure out something else to do when I'm bored. Food was comfort. I got REAL comfortable! 135 pounds of comfort and cushion against bordome. I would hate to go back to that. I'd hate it more than loving to eat.
